Meet the newest GAPSS VP’s!

Emma Motyka, VP Human Geography

About Emma:

I am going into my fourth and (hopefully) final year of my BA Human Geography degree. I am super passionate about how cities can accommodate to everyone, and be sustainable places where everyone can thrive. I am passionate about human geography and planning because I have always taken a strong interest in why cities are built the way they are and how we as humans interact with our environment, built or natural. When I am not in school I enjoy running, cycling, and playing with my dog, Oscar :)

Emma’s Platform Statements:

As VP Human Geography I would ensure Human Geography students get the representation they deserve, through aiming to organize more HGEO-focused events, especially when it comes to giving students the opportunity to meet people who graduated with Human Geography degrees and went into something other than planning (no offence planners). It would also be my goal to make sure more people truly understand the study of Human Geography, because it is truly such an interdisciplinary field and there are so many different career opportunities and focus areas surrounding it. I know HGEO is smaller, so it would be my priority to make sure HGEO students are seen and appreciated :)

Roan Deighton, VP Events

About Roan:

My name is Roan. I’ve been part of the GAPSS events committee for 4 years, and was a primary events coordinator for 1 year. I’ve helped organize many GAPSS events over my time with the student group, from board game nights to the Planning and Geography Year End Student Showcase.

Roan’s Platform Statements:

I want to be involved in the GAPSS community, and help to improve it from all our successes last year. My main goals for VP Social is to create more positive opportunities for students to interact, create friendship and make university a more enjoyable experience!
