Natalie Reviews the Sugarbowl
The Sugarbowl is an Edmonton staple located just off of the UofA north campus (10922 88 Ave NW). The area has many great restaurants and cafes close by which makes the area always busy and bustling. Next door is the restaurant's cafe, Kaffa, which gives you the option to get a coffee while waiting for your table that you can bring into the restaurant.
My friends and I chose the Sugarbowl to have a Sunday brunch and it came highly recommended as one of my friends favourite places. I’ve been a handful of times before and usually have had to wait 20-30 minutes for a table, but this time we were lucky enough to be sat in under 10 minutes. We were able to utilze the patio since it’s such a beautiful September.
I got the chicken and waffles with maple butter for $23 and an iced oat milk latte from Kaffa for $8.50. The dish usually comes with a watermelon salsa which I did get on the side but was not a huge fan of. I thought that the waffles were absolutely delicious and some of my favourite Belgian waffles I’ve ever had. The chicken was good, not as crispy as I was hoping for, but was still a good flavour overall. All 4 of my friends got spinach and feta omletes but added sides of vegan sausage or belgian waffles. Everyone really loved their food and there wasn’t an empty plate. It was nice to see so many vegan/vegetarian options for two of my friends who are vegetarian. We were hoping to get their cinnamon buns which my friend had been raving about but they were all sold out :( just gives us a reason to go back.
The service was super friendly and quick even though it was packed in the restaurant. I would love to go back and try something off their lunch menu in the future. Overall I would give the Sugarbowl an 8/10.
