Izzy Reviews TiKi TiKi on Whyte

For my dearest friend and fellow GAPSS member Simba’s birthday, we of course had to try out a restaurant we’d never tried before. We got onto a 15 minute bus ride from campus and got dropped off at 10047 Whyte Ave NW, Edmonton, AB and sauntered into TiKi TiKi on Whyte. The restaurant was definitely dim but the colourful decorations were definitely going for that Tiki atmosphere.

We got the musubi to start off with and I got the hou hou poke bowl for my main. The food did take a while to come but that doesn’t matter when you’ve got a group of friends to giggle with. I must admit the entire time I was taken aback by the weird lighting so keep that in mind! The mains arrived earlier than the appetizer, which came a bit later.

The hou hou poke bowl was quite a big portion and I had a good amount for leftovers. I think the poke bowl was the highlight of my meal. Nothing makes my heart ache more than a disproportionate fish to rice ratio in a poke bowl so no complaints from me here! The musubi however, was a bit disappointing and was a bit odd with the way the small portions were sushi roll shaped. I did get a peach dole whip slims off the happy hour menu as well, and that was pretty good.

I paid a total of $35.82 with tip included, not too bad considering I was set for leftovers for lunch the next day. Despite the long wait time for the food, the service was great! They do have quite a grand cocktail menu and one disappointing musubi isn’t enough to keep me away from giving this restaurant another shot. Overall, I give Tiki Tiki a solid 7/10!
