Vanessa’s Farewell!

As the academic year comes to an end, I wanted to briefly share my gratitude from this past year!

Heading into this role, I don’t think I fully knew what I was getting myself into. I definitely had my ups and downs, but I am so grateful for all I have learned in this past year! It was so awesome getting to meet and connect with so many GAPSS members. I’ve made so many new friends and stepped out of my comfort zones in ways I never thought I’d be capable of (mostly in terms of networking). It’s been a blast!

My first time playing darts at an APPI event.

My biggest highlight of the year has been the success of the GAPSS food blog, “Grab a Bite With GAPSS.” One of my goals as VP Internal was to increase the websites usability. As a previous media committee member, I sometimes struggled to find inspiration to write YIMBY’s. Although many of us are passionate about geography and planning, it can sometimes be challenging to think of unique topics to write about. So, I created a food blog to help counter these struggles. The food blog was intended to be a way for our media members to connect with different food scenes in the city, ultimately contributing feelings of placemaking throughout Edmonton. I loved reading about all the different kinds of foods and businesses our team visited. I’m incredibly grateful that the media committee was willing to take on this new idea and write some fantastic reviews!

I’m so proud of  all the work our members have contributed to GAPSS over the past year. We’ve grown SO much as a club, and I’m so excited to see what the future holds. Congratulations to our new executive committee! We have an incredibly talented team coming in for this next year, and I know GAPSS will continue to grow and flourish much like it already has been.

If you haven’t already, be sure to check out the GAPSS Gallery to see all the great events and  memories we’ve made in this past year!

Thank you for all the great times we’ve shared together! As I head into my last semester, I’ll miss being a part of the media committee. I can’t wait to see what Logan and David have in store!

Me and some dear friends at the COE Urban Design awards!

See y’all later!
